Why is it that something that seems so close, like the dream of getting away at a long weekend, seems so strange? Istanbul, further than its stones and the weight of its history, of the complexity of its yearning for modernization and the increase of an Islam which is never univocal, possesses a living culture that is contemporary, plural and pronounced social character.

The Huarte Centre, through "While all this is happening", which will be held from the 11 to 16 of November, proposes to establish a complex dialogue through art and creativity. The most innovating photography, video, performance, music, cinema, literature and design will give life to the first great Conference of Contemporary Turkish Culture.

A process that can open a new perspective for the public and artists in Istanbul and Navarra, which, as Beral Madra, organizer of the Conference, declares, "they can understand the others' aspirations and ways of creating art, find similarities and differences". Meet, share, create and feel, from one shore to the other.

In 'Free Radicals' we can find contemporary classics of experimental cinema (Bill Viola, Michale Snow and Werner Nekes); brief anthological journeys through the most sinister and disturbing animation films (Svankmajer and the Quay brothers); a return to the homes of old members of the resistance (Eric Rohmer, Philippe Garrel); journeys to the hypothesis of true African cinema (Idrissa Ouédraogo, Souleyman Cissé, Abderrahmane Sissako); revisiting of outlaw films (like Tengiz Abuladze's), documentaries that question their own nature as a genre (Franco Piávoli, Rithy Panh); and, of course, new forms of fiction (Jonathan Weiss, Bruno Dumont, Lucrecia Martel).

In any case, further than these idle connections, 'Free Radicals' does not intend to establish forced links or groupings. Like cards that belong to different decks, the programme proposes a game of contradictions and questions, the hope is that each session may question the previous and that the audience be the one that opens the way, ordering the wild territory and establishing an emotional network between films and the (radical and free) experience of viewing them.

JAZZ VOICES ENSEMBLE.

Pop, funk, jazz, Latin and Brazilian music, as well as new versions for cinema classics, make up the Jazz Voices Ensemble repertoire where a jazzy ensemble, the Mikel Gaztelurrutia Jazz Trio, with mixed vocal training, is united with the Andoni Arcilla Voice Quartet.

The power and harmony of María Jesús Abaigar (soprano), Laura Ridruejo (mezzo soprano), Asier Arcilla (baritone) and Andoni Arcilla (tenor) are combined with the piano and the musical direction of Mikel Gaztelurrutia, the contrabass of Marcelo Escritch and the drums of Vicent Thomas. A coloured repertoire which takes us from the immortalization of jazz divas to the most recent fusion.

Dialogues which are beautifully rhythmic pieces that demonstrate the deterioration of relationships which are usually caused by misery. In Stoning Mary, the work by Debbie Tucker Green which the Esquirla Theatre Company brings to the Huarte Centre, some of the most painful realities which the African Continent suffers are demonstrated in them with crude beauty and without moralism. To pose the following question: what kind of misery is it in which the rich play with drama with such aloofness, selfishness and coldness.

Directed by Vicente León, the actors are Eduardo Cárcamo, Sonia de Martín, Marta Gómez, Diana Samper, María Miguel and Carlos Martínez-Merón.

DANZA ILIACAN DUO.

"Situated at the centre of a world that has everything, sometimes we lack the most essential thing, but we are unable to see it...". Performed and created by Ángel Zotes and Natalia Jiménez, and directed by Álvaro de la Peña, Iliacan Duo presents a fragment of the play Mejorando lo Presente. "Breath again, See again. Shake hands and kiss. Without fear in your eyes. Without dragging out the pain. Try it again. Once and a thousand times more. Until the heart yearns. Laugh like children. Playing among the ruins. Dance like at your last birthday. Love again. Improving the present". (Álvaro de la Peña).

Born in 1962 into a family of musicians in southern Algeria, he moved to Paris where he studied classical guitar and graduated in musicology. A disciple of the master Hamma Moussa,of Diwan of Bikra, Caribbean music, jazz, electro-acoustic and experimental sounds are among his influences. He has been organizing the Festival de L'eau (Water Festival) since 1996 at several African rivers.

Ecosistema Urbano has received over 30 awards in national and international competitions.

Workshop in which the participants will work together to create proposals to improve public spaces; the proposals will not only be developed theoretically, the physical implementation of certain aspects will be found. There is a limit of 25 people. Directed at architects, students of architecture, design or communications, designers, engineers, town planners but also secondary
school students, neighbours... People of different ages, visions and education.
